What happens at Boot camp?

Before anything happens you will be asked to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) so that we are sure you are able to carry out an exercise programme.  If you have any doubts about your health or whether you are medically fit to exercise, we suggest you consult your GP for advice.

OK so you are fit and healthy and ready to go!  The first session is teaching you correct techniques of some of the exercises that we use at Boot Camp, so we it comes to the fitness assessments you will be able to do them correctly.

We will also give you a record sheet so you can take some measurements of your self and record any fitness tests that we do.  You will then be able to track your progress over the 6 weeks.

The fitness assessments are done on the second session.  These can vary between Boot Camps but the same test is always done at the begging and end of your particular Boot Camp.  The reason we vary them is because we run our Boot Camps almost back to back so will like to give people who return time and time again a bit of variation.

Tets may include:

Multi stage fitness test (Bleep Test) - Which tests your cardiovascular fitness.
1 Mile best effort walk/jog/run.

  • Max Press ups in 1 minute - Which is a muscular endurance test for your upper body
  • Max sit ups in 1 minute - Which is muscular endurance test for your abdominals
  • Max Squat Thrusts in 1 minute - Which is a muscular endurance and cardio vascular fitness test

We may incorporate a timed circuit style test with 5 or 6 exercises to be completed as fast as you can.

Boot camp fitness, Reading Berkshire Fitness Bootcamp at Prospect Park

There are 3 different fitness groups at Boot Camp and you will be assigned to one depending on your fitness asssesment result.  The reason for the groups is so everyone can work together but to within your own capability, so the fitter you are the more you are required to do, i.e. If the exercise was press ups, the yellows (lower group) would do 10, the reds (middle group) would do 15 and the greens (higher group) would do 20.  Hopefully as Boot Camp progressess you will try and reach the next level up as your fitness increases!

Each session will be challenging and you will cover all elements of fitness across the week. You can expect to do CV, strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, speed and power exercises.  Obviously we cannot cover everything in each session so each session will have a focus to it.  At the end of each session is an opportunity as a group to ask any questions, this may be about diet and nutrition or any other related topics.

The types of exercises you will do will vary, a lot will be body weight exercises with some running/jogging others we will bring some equipment like powerbags, kettlebells, boxing equipment, sandbags and we will also utilise what is available around the park i.e benches , fences and of course hills!

At the end of the 6 weeks you will have hopefully seen a big improvement in your health and fitness, feel and look great, but more importantly reached your personal goals and come away with more knowledge about fitness and healthy living.

SEE YOU AT THE NEXT BOOT CAMP!
