James Parker

James has been a keen sports and fitness fanatic since a child and was always an “outdoors” kind of person. This passion led him to a career into the British Army as an Infantry soldier in 1995. It was here he really developed his own fitness and later became an Army Physical training Instructor (PTI).

During his role as a PTI, James was charged with maintaining his colleagues’ peak physical fitness so that they were ready for any challenge. He was also able to develop his technical knowledge about training through the many courses that he did with The Army School of Physical Training.

When James’ service in the Army came to a natural end, he focussed on building a career in the fitness industry. Whilst working as a part-time fitness instructor, James decided to go into to full-time study and to deepen his knowledge even more. He trained with Premier International to gain his Personal Trainer Level 3 status.

In 2006 James set up Progressive Fitness. He quickly grew his reputation and was soon delivering an average of 30 hours personal training per week. Over time, this has enabled James to gain experience in training all kinds of clients from children to adults, sports players to complete beginners as well as clients with specific physical needs. James works hard on his clients and keeps them highly motivated at all times using skills he learned in the Army and over the last 7 and a half years “in the trenches” with his civilian clients.

In 2007 James added to the Progressive Fitness portfolio by starting up some of the first fitness Boot Camps in Berkshire which have grown in size and popularity month after month.  James’ next career goal is to build Progressive Fitness Training Ltd into the Fitness Training Service in Berkshire through his Fitness Boot Camps, Personal Training and his new children's fitness programmes.

James stays at the top of his game by continuously learning about new training techniques and developing skills that he believes will benefit his clients. He also pushes himself in his own physical training through setting new goals, entering competitions and taking part in new sports. James is currently training for the London Marathon and hopes to achieve a sub 3 hour.  James narrowly missed his goal of a sub1:20 half marathon in October 2013, so is also hoping to achieve this in the Reading half in March 2014.
